Waiting for the Leaves to Grow

The blooms of Helebore come out before the leaves.

At this time of year, I eagerly await the green awakenings of Spring. Leaves are my raw materials, and inspiration for my pottery. I love the way my favorites emerge slowly, each at it’s special time. The young leaves of lady’s mantle are sharply pleated. Mayapple leaves have a short moment of perfection before the slugs and other hungry creatures turn them into swiss cheese. The ephemeral quality of leaves guide me into a seasonal variety of choices. I look forward to the cycle starting anew!
